'Bible Correspondence Courses' Bring Hope to Refugees
For many years, one of Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) —Sri Lanka's most effective outreach programs has been the free Bible Correspondence Courses (BCC) available in both of Sri Lanka's native languages, Sinhalese and Tamil. Recently, these themed Bible studies have proven to be a useful resource for more than a hundred people living a desperate and hopeless existence in refugee camps in Vavuniya, Sri Lanka.
Pushpanathan is a 19 year-old man who lives in one of the camps and learned about BCC through a friend. Pushpanathan was raised as a Hindu, but after completing the lessons, he became interested in gaining a deeper understanding of Christ and His message. Recently he asked the LHM staff to help him find a church in his area so that he can begin attending services.
"I now really understand about Jesus Christ and the Christian religion," he says. Despite the ongoing challenges of refugee camp life, Pushpanathan senses the prospect of a soul peace that transcends his day-to-day hardships.
The LHM—Sri Lanka staff ask for prayers for unchurched people who are being brought to faith in Christ by the power of God's Spirit after completing Bible Correspondence Courses.
